CLEMENTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

WELLNESS COMMITTEE

Dear Parent:

Fruits, vegetables and whole grain snacks!  What a great nutritious idea.  Research indicates most children do not eat enough fruits, vegetables, and whole grains on a daily basis.  These snacks are loaded with vitamins, minerals and high fiber to provide energy for peak performance in school.

We are asking that you as parents provide healthy and nutritious snacks for your child this school year.  Here are some easy ideas for school snacks for birthday celebrations, class parties and school lunches:

            Any fruit                                                         Crunchy granola bars

Any vegetable                                              100% fruit juice or water

Cheese and whole grain crackers                        Pretzels

Celery with low fat cream cheese             Pudding cups

            Yogurt                                                                        Rice Cakes

Add a protein such as a cube of cheese or a little peanut butter for a satisfying, long lasting snack.  Please be aware of our “peanut free” classrooms.

In conjunction with the district priority of fostering healthy living, out goal is to help promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging good nutrition and physical activity at school and at home.  Healthy eating and exercise habits developed during childhood have the potential to last a lifetime.
