Language Arts ~ Ms. Collins

Summer is quickly approaching and we have many activities in Language Arts to keep you motivated and working your very best.  We have successfully completed the Unit 5 assessment, and are reading a few selections from the student anthology.  Students will be working on their Donald Zinkoff projects in class and will present them on Tuesday, June 8th

Remember to continue your reading journeys over the summer to keep your skills sharp.  Do you know one of the most important differences between students who succeed and those who fall behind? It’s often the amount of reading they do over the summer!  Research shows that letting kids choose their own books is the most effective way of encouraging independent reading.  Also, for some great ideas to help encourage summer reading, visit SCHOLASTIC SUMMER CHALLENGE at www.scholastic.com/summer.  This site provides plenty of games and activities for your child.

Below you will find two summer reading promotions that may encourage your children to read books over the summer.

·        TD Bank will deposit $10 into a child's bank account when they read 10 books.

http://www.tdbank.com/summerreading/

·        Borders is offering one free book when the children read 10 books, forms have been sent home with your child!

Here’s to a summer filled with exploration and new reading adventures!!

June is here!  The school year is coming to an end and we have some fun activities planned for this month.  On June 3rd, we will have our class carnival.  During this carnival, students will be presenting their carnival game projects to the class.  They will be playing each other’s games and maybe even winning some prizes!  Food and beverages will be provided as a reward for all their hard work.  Mr. Koch and Ms. Marcus will be judging the games and determining which ones will be used in this year’s school carnival held on June 5th.

After the carnival festivities, we will be completing Unit 10: Geometry Topics.  This unit focuses on tessellations and transformations.  Students will be working in groups to create their own regular, semi-regular, and nonpolygonal tessellations.  Prizes will be rewarded to the best tessellations in each sixth grade class.

Have a safe and happy summer!
