The Clementon Elementary School Safety Patrol aides the crossing guards at various intersections in town with assisting our students to and from school safely. They also provide support outside on school grounds as well as in the hallways. The safeties also give assistance at a variety of school sponsored functions. The Safety Patrol is an invaluable resource for the students and staff of our school. To serve in the Clementon Safety Patrol is voluntary and open to all Sixth Grade students. At the end of their Fifth Grade year, interested students are asked to write an essay regarding their interest in becoming a safety and what they believe to be the duties of a safety. The essays and the students are evaluated on their leadership qualities, courtesy, dependability, aptitude towards others, and scholastic standing. All documentation is then reviewed by the Safety Advisor for final selection. Some students may be awarded a second chance for selection to the Safety Patrol and will be supervised closely until they achieve the Safety Patrol standards. The Safety Patrol Advisor and the Sixth Grade teachers as well as administration work closely together to maintain the integrity of our program. Once chosen to be a member of the Safety Patrol, the students will follow an award/demerit system to ensure the high standards of the program are maintained. Students that are “full-time” safeties and receive four demerits due to failing school work, classroom discipline, late or no homework consistently, late to school and/or post, etc…, will be demoted to the substitute position and a substitute Safety will be promoted to their post. Once the demotion issues have been addressed and rectified, the student will earn their status back. Parents are encouraged to keep in touch with the Safety Patrol Advisor and inform him/her of any problems impacting the performance of their Safety Patrol child. Failure on the parent’s part to keep the Safety Patrol Advisor updated on their child’s situation may impact on their child’s participation in the Safety Patrol. Safety Patrol members are permitted to attend after school programs, activities, and extra help sessions with teachers. Students are asked to notify the Safety Patrol Advisor of their after school/activity schedule. Failure to keep the Safety Patrol Advisor informed will result in demotion or removal from the program. Safeties who provide excellent support will be awarded various parties, incentives, “Safety of the Month”, and end of the year trip to Great Adventure. Your Safety Patrol Advisor is available to discuss any and all issues and encourages all suggestions that will assist in maintaining the outstanding qualities of the Safety Patrol program. SAFETY PATROL RULES 1. All patrollers must be on their posts between 8:25 am-8:40 am and between 3:15 pm-3:30 pm.
