June News Bulletin

The end of the year is quickly approaching and we are in the last leg of the school year.  While students seem to be coming down with summeritis (sum’er’i’tis) -n., cannot function properly due to the desire to swim, play, and relax - students need to stay focused and give it their best until the end. Finish strong!

In math this month, we are designing our own math game boards.  After the games are designed and made, they will take turns playing the games and then vote on the best game board.

In Language Arts we will be completing Unit 4.  June will mark the completion of our Language Arts series.

In science, students are discovering the interactions in various ecosystems and the many wondrous and exciting elements of our Earth’s oceans in Unit B.  Students will also be taking an in depth look at the landscape and characteristics of the ocean floor, as well as the fascinating animals that dwell there.

DID YOU KNOW? Science Fast Facts

*The world’s oceans are about 3.5 percent salts. If the oceans evaporated, they would leave a layer of salt more than 150 ft. deep on the ocean floors.

*Benjamin Franklin published the first scientifically prepared chart of an ocean current, the Gulf Stream.  The chart made it easier for ships to travel by going with the west-to-east current.

*Many kinds of plants and animals live in coral reefs. As many as 160,000 known marine species live in the coral reefs found near the shores of islands and continents.

Parents, as the weather gets warmer, please refer to the code of conduct for what is considered appropriate apparel. Our school is climate controlled, and while it may start to get warm outside, it is quite comfortable inside the classrooms. Please consider this when helping your children select their clothing for school. Students may want to bring a sweater or light jacket to stay snug in the classroom.

Students have been working diligently to master their multiplication and division facts.  Please continue to reinforce these skills at home using flashcards.  Flashcards can be purchased at a local dollar store or even made by the students using note cards. Students can also practice their math skills on Study Island from the student section of the Clementon web page.
